Description
To the west of the village of Fochabers in Moray, Scotland sits the Gordon Castle Estate. Within its walled gardens there lies an amphitheatre. Every summer a season of outdoor performance takes place. Their past performances range from adaptations of literary classics, such as Wuthering Heights and Pride and Prejudice, to children’s favourites such as Gangsta Granny and The Adventures of Dr Dolittle. Companies that perform regularly at the site include Heartbreak Productions and Illyria, both of whom perform in outdoor venues across the UK each year. The Gordon Castle Walled Garden is also home to one of the oldest kitchens in Britain, whose ethos drives them towards becoming as self-sufficient as possible by using their own produce. This makes it a great place to enjoy outdoor theatre. This setting increases our awareness of the relationship we have to the world around us and the benefits of using it sustainably, whilst also providing a beautiful venue sunken in nature to enjoy the performance.
