Title
Church House Gardens Amphitheatre
Description
The Amphitheatre in Church House Gardens was constructed to replace a bandstand and viewing area after the destruction by vandals in 1963 of the thatched roofed bandstand that stood on an island in the park lake. According to the Friends of Bromley Town Parks, the amphitheatre was probably constructed in around 1979 as part of improvement works in this part of the park, with a viewing area looking across the lake to the performance space. It has only been used occasionally, usually in conjunction with events organised by the neighbouring Churchill Theatre. In 2012, a new performance area was constructed on the same side of the lake as the viewing area. However, the amphitheatre is not currently in regular use.
