Minack Theatre

Title

Minack Theatre

Description

The Minack Theatre is a world famous theatre is perched on the rugged cliffs of South-West Cornwall, staging a wide variety of shows each year.

The Minack was built by hand by Rowena Cade and her team, who carved a stage and seating area into the granite cliff-side attached to Cade’s home with an artistic flair that is still visible today. Each year they stage over 200 performances. Recent productions have included The Secret Garden, All’s Well That Ends Well, and The Addams Family, with many of their productions performed by touring companies such as The British Theatre Academy and Heady Conduct.

The theatre itself looks out over Porthcurno Bay. The Lizard peninsula is just visible on the horizon as the sun sets for their Theatre Under the Stars performances, which use the moon and its reflection on the sea as one of their light sources. The Minack Theatre is a tourist attraction in its own right, but it is its theatre performances which bring the landscape to life.
